| Our History T H Agri-Chemicals, Inc. was incorporated on June 1, 1982. The business was purchased from North American Phillips and was originally part of Thompson Hayward Chemicals, a wholly-owned subsidiary of North American Phillips. Phillips decided that electronics were more profitable than the agricultural and industrial chemical business and decided to divest themselves of Thompson Hayward. There were three retail outlets in the U.S., two in Georgia and one in Plainfield, WI. They gave each branch manager the opportunity to purchase the location they were managing. Bob Zimpel chose to take advantage of this opportunity and purchased the business in Plainfield, WI. Bob is currently President of T H and majority stockholder. Steve Rosenthal is Vice President and minority stockholder. When Bob had started with Thompson Hayward in December of 1970, they had sales of $300,000. In Wisconsin, he built this into a multi-million dollar business and was very gratified to take the opportunity to purchase the business he had built. Part of T H's success has been due to its diligent control of cash-flow, receivables, and invoicing. With the exception of a nine-day period in September of 1982, T H has never had to borrow from a lending institution. Originally, T H's sales area was limited to Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We have since expanded our territory significantly. We now service customers in Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, and beyond. In Plainfield, T H continues to expand. In 2003 we added 7,000 square feet to our existing bulk chemical facility, significantly increasing the number of bulk products, particularly generic varieties, we carry. Also, in 2008 we built a 6,300 square foot storage warehouse to meet our needs for space as we continue to grow. In addition to size and region, T H has also expanded in its ability to service a broader customer base. Originally, our emphasis was on specialty crops: Christmas trees, cranberries, ginseng, apples, strawberries, potatoes, snap beans, and peas, just to name a few. We now have expanded into row crops, which in turn has expanded our business. T H is a distributor for most major and generic agricultural chemical producers. In addition, being a member of the Independent Agribusiness Professionals (I.A.P.) allows us to be on a competitive level with all of the major distributors of agricultural inputs. T H Agri-Chemicals plans to continue to search for opportunities that will allow us to grow our business in a controlled fashion that will not jeopardize us in any way. With over 27 years in the field, we have learned to adapt to change as well as to anticipate it. We look forward to the future of agriculture, and being there to meet it. |
